1 Description It occurs as white or colourless crystals or a white crystalline powder.

(A) It gives the reactions of chlorides.
(B) It gives the reactions of sodium salts.
3 Solubility It is freely soluble in water and slightly more soluble in boiling water; practically insoluble in ethanol.
4 Appearance of solution Solution is clear and colourless.
5 Acidity or alkalinity Not more than 0.5 ml of 0.01 M hydrochloric acid or of 0.01 M sodium hydroxide is required to change the colour of the solution.
6 Arsenic Not more than 1 ppm.
7 Barium No turbidity is produced within 2 hours.
8 Bromide Not more than 100 ppm.
9 Calcium and magnesium Not more than 50 ppm, calculated as Ca.
10 Ferrocyanide No blue colour is produced within 10 minutes.
11 Heavy metals Not more than 5 ppm.
12 Iodide The substance shows ho blue colour after 5 minutes.
13 Iron Not more than 20 ppm.
14 Sulphates Not more than 300 ppm.
15 Loss on drying Not more than 1.0%.
16 Assay Not less than 99.0% and not more than 100.5% of NaCl, calculated on the dried Basis.

PACKAGING

MOLSALT® NaCl is packed in HDPE bag or HDPE drum with double PE liners inside having bar-coded label and tamper-evident seal.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 5 years. Preserve in well-closed containers.
